Why: CompuCorps Mentoring through its ReBOOT program, champions the re-use of technology, the reduction of electronic wastes and the elimination of the digital divide. They are joining with non-profit groups in the community to help ensure that every one, regardless of income, has access to a computer. Sponsors: Youth Welfare Association of Rupert Theatre Wakefield Conseil Equilibrio Wakefield United Church reBOOT Ottawa, a non-profit service of CompuCorps Mentoring gathers re-useable computer equipment from both the public and private sectors. After upgrading and refurbishing them CompuCorps re-distributes them to other registered charities and their clients for a small administrative fee. CompuCorp's other nonprofit service, the TechMentor IT Volunteer Service, provides technical support on projects so charities can employ modern solutions to achieve their goals. TechMentors create websites, develop databases and network offices. "Trashing used computers when companies or government departments upgrade their systems is a shame when so many in our community, including students, New Canadians and service groups require their use to gain equal access to opportunites within our information society.
