Commit to a successfull technology volunteer mentoring project !
|
Successful technology projects require a commitment from all parties involved.
This page explains what the each group should contribute to the project:
- Non profit responsibilities
- CompuCorps responsibilities
- Mentor responsibilities
|
 |
 |
 |
1. Identify and assign a staff liaison.
This person will be the primary contact for CompuCorps staff and the mentor, and should
have flexibility in his/her schedule to work with a volunteer at flexible hours (such as
occasional evenings and weekends). Organizations should make sure the staff liaison has
the support needed to complete the mentor project.
|
 |
2. Develop and agree to a workplan.
The workplan outlines the specific objectives of the project and helps set clear expectations
for you and the volunteer. A CompuCorps staff person will work with you to develop reasonable
project goals. Once the needed work is identified and agreed upon, CompuCorps will create a
project agreement that must be signed by a representative from CompuCorps and the nonprofit.
|
 |
3. Pay project fee.
Please secure the support of the executive director and ensure that your group will pay the
project fee. You need to return the signed project agreement and pay the project fee before
CompuCorps can begin searching for a mentor. (Please do not send any money before you talk to
someone at CompuCorps).
|
 |
4. Communicate with CompuCorps staff.
CompuCorps staff will contact you regularly to monitor the progress of the project,
hear your problems and concerns, and provide additional advice and resources. You should
contact us if there are any unexpected problems or changes during the project.
|
 |
5. Thank your mentor.
Thank your mentor with a card, letter, meal, or any way you feel is appropriate.
Invite him or her to a special event at your organization or school or in the community.
Celebrate the completion of your project with a meal or gathering. Or find out about the
mentor's hobbies and interests so that you can give a more personal gift.
Don't wait until the project is over - thank your mentor every time you see them!

5. Re-assign mentors (if necessary)
If the mentor is unable to complete the scope of work, does not return communication
from client, is incompatible with the client assigned, and/or is hindering the project's
progress, we will identify a new mentor who can complete the scope of work as soon as possible.

1. Review and agree to nonprofit workplan
Mentors should carefully review the client's workplan and timeline for completion. If any
modifications are necessary, you should contact CompuCorps to update the original project
agreement. This essential step sets realistic expectations of what you will accomplish.
|
 |
2. Communicate with nonprofit staff and CompuCorps
Communicate regularly with the nonprofit regarding progress on the project. It is also
important to communicate with CompuCorps, especially if you are unable to complete the
project, if problems are encountered, or if you need assistance.
|
 |
3. Complete the workplan
Complete the objectives agreed upon in the project workplan.
