Beneficiaries of the Laptop Collection 2007
The following are our partner charities that will directly benefit from our laptop collection drive. You have a chance to see whom exactly your laptop can help. For further information about each of the charities please visit the links provided below. |
The Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB)
The CCB is a non-profit charitable organization founded in 1944, with 600,000 visually impaired Canadians in 85 chapters across Canada and is a national self-help consumer organization “of” blind, deaf-blind and visually impaired persons. Over the years the CCB has grown and evolved to become recognized as Canada’s “voice of blind Canadians”. CCB and CompuCorps announced the launch of a joint technology initiative, called the TechCane project, which will put 10,000 laptop computers into the hands of Canada’s blind and visually impaired community with the help of thousands of IT volunteers from across Canada. The laptops will provide a standardized national platform complete with adaptive software to assist low vision or blind CCB members with various computer applications and internet connectivity enabling access to such services as e-mail and internet banking, For more information about CCB please visit www.ccbnational.net. |
Ottawa Community Immigrant Services Organization (OCISO)
OCISO is a non-profit service agency that has been assisting immigrants and refugees with settlement issues since 1978. They are a multi-service agency with award-winning programs for students and schools, learning English, immigrant women, job seekers, victims of torture, families and communities. Annually, more than 8,000 immigrants and refugees land in Ottawa to make it their home, with approximately 4,500 newcomer students in Ottawa’s schools. OCISO serves more than 16,000 people every year. Their services help newcomers to help themselves by providing information, counselling, and support. The laptops collected will be sold through OCISO and CompuCorps at a low price for new Canadians, with an emphasis placed on new Canadian families with children. For more information about OCISO please visit www.ociso.org. |
Other beneficiaries will be those individuals in the Ottawa community who would otherwise not be able to afford a laptop. They will be able to purchase your donated laptops at a low price, beginning December 2007, just in time for Christmas. As you can see, your laptops will be given a new life with someone who will appreciate it to its greatest extent. CompuCorps would like to thank all of our partner charities for joining us in such a great cause and we would also like to thank you for your interest and support. |
